Atlanta Dream Co-Owner Reveals Major Pick for WNBA MVP in 2024 Season
Lucas Peltier-USA TODAY Sports

The new WNBA season is about to start and there are lot of reasons to be excited for it. For Atlanta Dream co-owner Renee Montgomery , though, the MVP race is shaping up to be a good one with Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson leading the pack.

Wilson first entered the league as the Aces’ number one overall pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft. From there, the then-21 year old forward put up an impressive first year in the league by averaging 20.7 points on 46 percent shooting from the field, 8.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.7 blocks per game. This performance throughout 33 games helped Wilson win Rookie of the Year during the 2018-19 season.

As impressive as her rookie campaign was, it was bound to get better for Wilson. In 2020, the Las Vegas star won the regular season MVP award over other WNBA stars, such as Breanna Stewart, Candace Parker, and Courtney Vandersloot. She would later win again in 2022, the same year she won her first ring with the Aces.

Last season, Wilson led Las Vegas to another championship as they defeated the New York Liberty in four games. She was later named Finals MVP for her effort in leading the Aces to their second consecutive ring.

With Candace Parker retiring and Clark set to play her first professional game, the landscape of the WNBA is about to change. But when it comes to the MVP race, Montgomery said in a video shared by NBA TV that Wilson is the strongest candidate to win the award.

While Stewart has the second-best odds to win, the Indiana Fever rookie surprisingly took the third spot in the list. She is projected to be better than other veterans, such as Alyssa Thomas and Brittney Griner.

It remains to be seen whether Wilson can land her third MVP or lose it to another star. What’s certain, though, is that this season’s race for the said award is going to be an exciting one.
